April Lockhart, born in 1995 on the 4th of July. She began piano and guitar lessons from age seven. The passion for writing songs was ignited. April Lockhart wrote her first track, Different at the age 12 years old. When she was 14, April spent much time writing and honed her musicianship abilities. In the following months, April started taking trips to NY and LA along with her dad to help them compose songs. April also began incorporating various other topics relevant to the Take my Hand song for some close friends, like peer pressure issues and suicide among teens. Lockhart also has an ever-growing popularity as a lifestyle influencer and is employed by the renowned brand of clean and natural beauty Ilia. She was not born with a left-hand, which is what makes her who she is. It's just not the full story. Lockhart doesn't deny her disability in her posts on Instagram, however she isn't making it the focal point of her story. What message is it sending? It's important to keep in mind that everyone has many faces, our identities are varied and we're much more than our bodies. Lockhart, via video message sent from her Nashville home, says that I do not want this to define me. I'm much far more than just my physical self. This doesn't have any effect on my everyday life. I go about every day as normal and have found the best way for me to adapt to things. However, I also consider it to be a vital aspect of me. Self-acceptance can be a marathon for a lifetime but Lockhart truly inspires me for this aspect. Lockhart admits to having gone through phases where she was uncomfortable wearing certain clothing styles which showed her arms. Today, she wears anything she wants. And she posts her pictures to social media. It's all a process is the most important thing. I don't know that will ever be the end about self-love. It's a long journey. I'm not sure you'll ever arrive. It's important to surround yourself with people who can really understand the person you are.
